stormwater

In urban areas rain and snow melt can no longer soak into the ground due to impervious surfaces such as roads, parking lots, buildings, and compacted land. The velocity and volume of stormwater is increased in urban areas and it is contaminated with chemicals, fertilizers, pet waste, oil, and sediment.

At KRE we work with green infrastructure techniques to slow and infiltrate stormwater runoff. This reduces erosion, grows vegetation and treats pollutants through interactions with soil microbiology thereby improving water quality.

Techniques used include:

We work with landowners, new development, and modify existing development. We also work with municipalities to manage stormwater flows before they enter waterways as with the Santa Fe City Stormwater Demonstration Project.
